I’m Hooked
A Wall Hook

By Hook or By Crook
I started with a design that blended wall art with a hook, but after countless sketches and trying to force something I didn’t fully enjoy, I realised… why waste this freedom? A broad brief is the perfect chance to experiment, and since I’m here to learn (at uni), I decided to have some fun. Instead of making another minimalistic or industrial hook, I wanted to flip things around.
Why should kids have all the fun? As adults, we can enjoy the little things too—even something as small and everyday as a hook. It doesn’t have to be boring.
Brief
To design a wall hook…That’s it!
Research
I started with minimal, geometric hook designs, aiming to create a piece that could blend into the wall like a sculpture. After sketching a few different ideas and growing frustrated, I suddenly noticed a figure in the hook—almost as if it were screaming at me! which gave me this idea and a slight flip.
Development
Bringing the sketch to life started with thick card, and I tried to mimic the shape using an acrylic sheet, bending it with a heat gun. However, it didn’t look the way I wanted. I then modeled it and 3D-printed the arms along with the mount that held all the pieces together.
